Compass Points and Directions

Compass Points and Directions

"Through practical activities which include the use of technology, I have developed my understanding of the link between compass points and angles and can describe, follow and record directions, routes and journeys using appropriate vocabulary. MTH 2-17c"

Primary 5 are working on this outcome and we decided to incorporate outdoor learning to help with this.  We drew and labelled the 8-point compass on the playground and used it to describe different turns, moving clockwise and anti-clockwise.

Primary 5 are working on the Crest Awards which involves completing 8 STEM challenges.  We completed our first one on Friday which involved looking for the best ways to take our fingerprints.  We then compared our own to each other's and discussed how fingerprints are used.

We are pleased to offer you the opportunity to take part in learning activities with your child which will focus on the e-portfolios of pupils’ work that they have been building up.  The pupils are adding aspects of their work from each curricular area in school and it would be beneficial if you could learn together how to add to their achievements from home too.

Family Learning: Digital Pupil Profiles would take place after school on a Tuesday from 3pm - 4pm and would run for 4 weeks.  The dates would be 1st May, 8th May, 15th May and 22nd May.

If this is something you would be interested in, please complete the tear-off slip that your child was given, indicating your availability and return to the school.

Many thanks,
Mrs Borzacchiello
